APPRENTICESHIPS IN INSTALLING AND MAINTAINING DOMESTIC HEATING SYSTEMS

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL 2

The course covers the understanding and application of the following:

  • Health & Safety Legislation
  • Environmental Legislation
  • Installing bathroom appliances
  • Installing boilers, radiators
  • Fault finding and changing parts

The course contains a high level of practical work and it is important that strict safety rules and regulations are observed at all times.

Course Content:

  • Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Plumbing and Heating
  • Level 2 Functional skills in Maths and English (exemption if you hold GCSE grade 4 or above
  • Level 1 Functional Skills in ICT (exemption if you hold GCSE grade 3 or above)
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills

Length of Programme:

  • 2 years

ADVANCED LEVEL 3

The course covers the understanding and application of the following:

  • Health & Safety Legislation
  • Environmental Legislation
  • Hot and cold water installations
  • Central Heating system installation and maintenance
  • Electrical knowledge supporting installation

After completing a series of mandatory units, learners can opt to follow an environmental pathway, specialising in solar thermal hot water systems, heat pumps or water recycling systems. The course includes knowledge and performance units. The qualification combines workplace assessments, onscreen exams and centre marked assignments.

  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Plumbing and Heating
  • Functional Skills in English and Maths (achieved during Intermediate Apprenticeship)
